While the club doesn't currently organise any mountain bike rides, that doesn't mean we can't in the future!
A number of the club members race in the National Points Series, MTB Enduro's and Marathons as well as the Midlands Series.
If you are interested in mountain bike riding or racing locally, post here and we'll see what can be organised amongst us.

I'm always training in and around the Wyre Forest so if anyone ever wants to come along just reply to this post or create a new topic in any of the relevant boards. P.S See my post about an Xmas eve ride in the "Club Runs and Social Rides" board. Link -->> wfcrcforum.boards.net/index.cgi?board=3&action=display&thread=19

Interesting comment Darbs made about club riders competing in various off road events. I have heard nothing so I have been unable to advertise this section of club activity in the local press. If any club member is in to any kind of competition over the winter months let me know before mid-day on any monday and I will try to get a report in the local papers.

Returning to cycling after quite a few years off and have started to ride a mountain bike. I fancy having a look around the Wyre Forest but not sure about a route. Any advice? If anyone fancies showing me round there and doesn't mind a slow ride, there's a beer in it for them. Cheers, Gary B

Hi Gary
I am suprised that nobody has jumped at the chance of a free beer!
I guess that as there are very few of us who regularly ride in the forest, there was likley to be a slow response, especially as the road and time-trial season is in full swing.
As well as working at the Royal Ordnance Rocket range on the Button Oak side for many years, I used to ride in the forest on a weekly basis (it was actually my commute for 5 years!), hence I know it very well. Having recently moved closer to Pershore that doesn't happen any more.
If I do plan any trips over I'll drop a note on here and I can show you a couple of the good sections that you may not stumble across by just riding around.
Having said that, there is much more single track in the forest now than there was 20 years ago, so there is a lot of benefit in just following tyre tracks off into the trees and finding out where they go.
Keep in touch, the only way we will build a more active mountain bike section is by people getting involved and riding together, it just takes time and patience!

I occasionally do a MTB ride with a friend around Starting at Habberley Valley, going through Trimpley, Arley, Button Oak, Wyre Forest , Bewdley then back to the Habberley Valley. We tend to stick to the designated cycle paths through the Wyre Forest ( fire road ) but it is an enjoyable ride which for our fitness level (not very fit smokers) it gives a good challenge. The round trip is about 16 miles Link to Route

Not very fit?! I despise that climbs out of Arley with a passion (especially when on a MTB!) so you're clearly doing far better than you're letting on Andy!!
As for trails through the forest Paul is quite right in suggesting that if you follow tyre tracks and you're pretty much guaranteed to stumble upon some good riding. This time of year it's very hit and miss to when I ride in the forest due to focusing all of my time into road racing but maybe through the autumn and winter I may do some more.

Jack.. Unfit is relative, but I am improving I also despise that climb, it kills me every time, at my granny geared 22/28 4.5mph average I am gasping for oxygen constantly, but my head says " you can do it " the body either does as it's told or collapses trying.
