Good racing for the club last night on the CAT3/4 race at SSC. Jason Lloyd put in 2 blistering laps and decided to retire after his heart monitor nearly exploded, nice one mate Paul Darby tried to get away throughout the race, he has commented I how efficent I pulled the bunch back to him on a least one occassion, sorry mate but I did not want to get left at the back. Final lap and we were well placed, crash on the corner (Pedal grounded) by some guy by the Sports club sent us both going either way to aviod but we recovered well. I finished 9th and Paul D finished 10th. Good points again for us ths week on the track. Well done chaps, lets keep this going

Yes, last night was good, its the first time in ages that I have enjoyed racing and felt like I was in the mix. So much so that on 5 separate occasions I tried to get in the break, even trying completely solo!
On one of the occasions a group of 3 of us got away and put about 50 metres in to the bunch. I was just telling the other 2 guys that we could work now to make it stick, when I looked over my shoulder to see how much of a gap we were creating, and who should I see going like a steam train on the front of the bunch, working hard to drag them all back to me.... yes, my friend and 'teammate'... Justin.
I couldn't shout at him too much though as he was giving me a lift back home in his van.

Towed up the bunch! 1st offence is a good beating, 2nd time you get whacked. No messing in WFCRC...

Fear not, he saw the error of his ways. I think he was actually trying to get across to join the break, as he did the week before, but just didn't realise there were 36 other guys on his wheel!
Plus, having raced the 2/3/4 the week before, with Pete Banham and Ewan McDonald pushing the break along, there wasn't a hope in hell of anyone jumping across the gap alone! We were going hard and still watching the gap open!

Well you know what Brucey used to say 'what do points make???' Driving ban and bus tickets if you are unlucky I suppose!!! I did try to get across but soon dropped it when I looked behind. Sure someone else would have taken it up but can assure my fellow college that if I did get across it may have been party time. But you can't do it off the front of the bunch, came from the back last week and burned them on the downhill while they were napping. Won't be doing it again, total waste of energy. I'm learning and doing ok for a newcomer but as I have said I have got a huge amount to learn. I may have the Thighs and Calfs but got a long way to go on the experience side of racing. Jesus, from Hero to Zero in one week!! Sugar Your safe for the next 2 weeks Jack, I'm not about.

Jesus, from Hero to Zero in one week!! Sugar . Let me tell you, I have ridden with a lot of new racers over the past 23 years, and not only have I never seen anyone get up to a good racing speed so quickly, but also be so comfortable and safe riding in the bunch. You have got nothing to worry about. I have seen plenty of riders who have raced for years but I still wouldn't trust them alongside me in a fast moving bunch, in fact there are riders I know now who I don't like alongside me! There are all sorts of racing tactics to learn, but that will come, just keep racing. Racing tactics is like a rule book that you are not allowed to read! You just have to fly by the seat of your pants, its not a big deal. Firstly we do this for fun, secondly we don't get paid for it, thirdly its only a bike race! At this rate it is entirely possible that you could do 4th to 2nd Cat in one season. With the hours on the bike that you put in, and your sprint, is 1st Cat possible? We'll see.

No problem mate, I will keep the pedals turning as fast as I can. After all I don't want to turn into a 'Cyclist enthusiast' eating Power Bars in a bunker do I? Haha. Need to get those road races booked, seem the Gloucester road race. Have you booked yet and anything else we are going to have a crack at?

Yep, there are still a few left. The Gloucester one is 2/3/4 but we can give it a go. There are a couple of others on the track on a Saturday as well run by Beacon CC.
Hope you are having fun in France sprinting for the 30 kmh signs!

How did you get on Paul? Any more points??

No, finished just outside the points with Jack and Jamie, I was happy with my race though. I am not going to do any more 2/3/4 races now, I am going to focus on 3/4 races. I have set a schedule for every other week at Stourport then there are other 3/4 races on the alternative weeks at places like Mallory, Curborough etc.
After my poor start to the season I have left it a bit late to start chasing points really, the season dries up completely in about 8 weeks!

Quality race for Paul Darby last night. He came in a fine 2nd earning much deserved 9 points working really hard to keep up with the pace throughout the race. It was hot on the track and there was a good 6 riders who sat up and pulled out of the race as it progressed. The pace was fast and the last 8 laps were speedy stopping anyone from attacking and just trying to keep up with the pace I managed to get myself back into the race after struggling running around in reverse to the normal way of racing, lasted untl the last lap but then dropped off not being able to keep the pace. I later found out that the pace in the final laps was set by 2 very good TT riders so was happy enough that I hung on until the last lap Well done again Paul, a night when it would have been quite easy for anyone to put your hand up and pull out. You dug in well for the final sprint, a big step towards that CAT2!!!
