We have been contacted by West Mercia Police following an incident reported to them by a member of the public at our Great Witley TT on Wednesday 13th May.
The report is that a driver of a Black Range Rover had to take immediate avoiding action to prevent a head on collision between his car and on oncoming cyclist taking part in our TT. He reported that the rider was on his side of the road at some point along Horn Lane, a short distance after the junction with Hillside. (The first left turn on the TT route after the start).
The driver was extremely shaken and genuinely concerned for the safety of the cyclist that he had encountered.
The marshall on the turn commented that he saw a number of riders take a very wide line into the turn and cross the central white hazard lines when approaching from Hillside to the left turn, and some crossed the central white hazard line after making the left turn into Horn Lane. We have also had issues in the past with riders crossing onto the opposite side of the road when making the final left turn off the A443 into the B4197 just before the finish at Great Witley.
CTT regulations make it clear that while riding every event riders must stay on the left side of the road unless overtaking and comply with the highway code. If marshals see riders crossing onto the opposite side of the road at any point the rider will be immediately disqualified. Repeat offenders will be prevented from riding in future events.

Our TT events require Police approval at the start of every season, this type of incident may jeopardise future Police support and puts our club TT events at risk.
Please let me know if you have any queries.
