I may enter, it's a good course, with a long climb up to the finish so its not a bunch sprint. I have raced it a couple of times before and learned my lesson cooking myself trying to bridge across to breaks towing everyone else with me!
Its defintely a race for conserving energy, especially if it's a south westerly wind, as there is a long straight which can be sapping in a wind, then the opposite way is the climb, so it's hard in both directions.

Watch out if there's a cross wind along the top of the course and make sure you're not caught in the wrong place. Last time I raced this course the bunch ended up across the entire road into on coming traffic and if in the wrong place you either have to put yourself in the wind and get spat out the back of the bunch or ride into an oncoming truck. (I chose the wind!) ...can you tell I'm not bitter?!

I know you say that you don't like crits but if the Paramount road race is your first then maybe you should seriously consider doing the Tuesday night crits at SSC between now and the 19th July. Crits can be full on interval sessions, sprinting out of corners etc. This will help you to adapt to changes of pace but on a closed circuit, if you do get dropped in the first couple of weeks, sit up take an easy lap and a drink and jump back in, you will get stronger and more confident as the weeks go by and your bike handling skills in a bunch situation will improve. If all goes well you should enjoy your first road race, and you never know, some one has to win, right.
