Hello all, I have finally decided its about time I joined THE local club! We have got a family membership as my youngest daughter has been benefiting from your fantastic friday coaching sessions and we cycle occasionally as a family too. I have been cycling competitively for many years, mainly offroad mtb xc and cyclocross. I find myself training lots on the road bike so I am looking forward to joining you on some club runs and meeting some of you at events. I am doing Shelsley Walsh hill climb sunday so maybe see some of you there? All the best, Rob.

Hi Rob Welcome to WFCRC, there are a few of us that have raced MTB and CX so we will have plenty to chat about. Have a great ride at the hill climb on Sunday, there will be plenty of the club there as we help organise and run it so be sure to introduce yourself to anyone in a Wyre Forest top, they are all friendly.

Ahh... Mr Grimes, great to see that you have joined the club, that's really good news, another fast guy into the fold! Could this be the start of our Mountain Bike Division!!?
I am at Shelsley Walsh tomorrow, I am organising as opposed to riding, we must catch up then.
(All we need now is to get Jam Price to join the club, then I can retire to my island in the sun happy that my job is done!)

I can see where this is going, before you know it Darby will have blown the dust off his wooden wheeled off road special "The Astley Time Machine" and transported himself back to 1995 in a Doc Brown Back to the Future Peugeot 205 with Oakley wrap arounds and a dayglo bandana, aah those were the days.

Can I remind you it was a pearl white Renault 5 GT Turbo... I drove this across the field at an Astley MTB race and didn't see the ditch that was filled with grass running across the car park, which is why the front fog lights are missing! (these pics were actually around 1991 I think). Note the Alpine Stars Al-Meg E-Stay, underneath that is a Pro-Flex 856 with a Girvin Flex-Stem, and I am not sure whose bike that is on the roof. These were the days before suspension forks! Attachments:

Aah the mists of time are swirling in a confusing manner me thinks. If it was a Proflex 856 then 1991 is too early, I`m sure I bought the earlier 855 model in the mid 90`s. Elastomer suspension was great, basically 2 bits of yellow rubber, the girvin forks looked trick though. Remember the BMW Proflex team? My crystal ball is fogging up now, going for a cream tea.

I think you're right, I had the steel frame Pro-Flex, which pre-dated the aluminium ones, I can't remember the model number, I'm going to dig out some old photos and see what it was!

Hello Chris and Chez, great minds hey? looks like the offroad section could be growing fast. My time is currently taken up by the cyclocross season so not getting on the mtb as much as Id like. saying that, anyone with an mtb can have a go at cyclocross racing. Its not as technical as xc but is a good workout and probably more exciting due to the close nature of the racing. Lots of local events and cheap to enter, great to watch and support as laps tend to be 6 or 7 minutes long and go in and out of the main field several times a lap.come and have a go, closest event is at Top Barn, Worcs on the 22nd of November.
