The British Cycling coaches that run the Thursday evening winter coaching are adding a requirement that all participants must be members of a 'Go-Ride' affiliated club, as well as British Cycling members. This will be phased in over the coming weeks.
There is good logic in their approach as they want to encourage cyclists to join both British Cycling, and local Go-Ride cycling clubs, as it is the Go-Ride clubs that do the most to support cyclists and grow the sport, particularly with children and youth participation. Go-Ride clubs have something to offer everyone. They offer opportunities to ride, regardless of age and ability and opportunities to volunteer so there is something to suit all. For Go-Ride registered clubs this is great news as it shows some return on the effort that it takes us to gain and retain Go-Ride status.
This is not a major change as most of the large local clubs such as Wyre Forest CRC, Halesowen A&CC, Wolverhampton Wheelers, Redditch R&P etc are already Go-Ride registered.
