I'm just back from messing about on the bike in Mallorca for the past 5 weeks, usual format, ride a bit, stop for coffee and cake, ride a bit more, lunch stop, ride back and stop at Pro Cycle cafe for a small beer, and cake - it's been hard I can tell you
Now home and ready to pick up on the Sunday club runs, the 09.30 ones from Stourport Sports Centre. During the summer there was a nice mix of riders from the Wyre Forest plus some from another local club, we kind of shared the ride leads by mutual consent and it worked well. What I would like to see is a lot more WFCRC members, and potential members, coming on the Sunday run. The general format has been a group ride out to a cafe stop about 20 - 25 mls away, mix of roads and country lanes, at a pace where the chit chat flows easily. Sometimes there is a bit of 'excitement' just over the last 10 or 20 mins coming back which is fine as long as it is kept to just that, after all a club run is a social ride, there is a time and place to train and race.
Anyway catching up on the forum news I se there are lots of new members and many sound fairly new to cycling. An introductory social ride would be ideal, just a gentle group ride of around 25-30 mls inc a cafe stop, same as last winters rides that Andy Overton got started from Droitwich. If a couple of other club members would help out, maybe leading on a rota basis, Mary and I could do some Saturday rides from SSC, starting at say 10.00am and returning 12.30/1.00. Interested parties let us know on the forum, if the weather is ok we will be down this Saturday (we don't do rain).
One final thing, as the weather and roads get progressively more mucky over the coming weeks please fit some decent mudguards, to protect fellow riders as much as oneself. I will be prepping my winter steed this next week.
