I had some interesting conversations last night after the AGM and I would like to ask the question to you all regarding the definition of a 'Club Ride'.
I feel relatively new to cycling and club riding and I am happy to call a club ride a ride with 2 or more cyclists from the same club. Does a club ride have to be an organised regular meeting of a large number of riders from the same club?
WFCRC aren't the best club in organising regular group or 'Club' rides however looking at WFCRC social media (Facebook, Twitter,Forum, Strava) I can see a number of smaller groups of riders that regularly ride - should these be classed as 'Club Rides'?
The Southern Division ride every weekend and although we don't communicate our rides through social media we contact and arrange our club rides between ourselves however anyone can join us - does this apply to other groups?
My point is, there are a number of rides happening and although they aren't published as an official 'club ride' they are happening and other riders should or could join them and we shouldn't keep saying that there aren't any club rides happening.

The normal definition of a club ride has always been based on the weekly Club Run, and for every club I've ever known this is the main social ride. However it has also been common practice for many clubs to do other collective rides, eg there has been a tuesday morning ride from SSC the past 12 yrs to my knowledge, and as you say Lucy there are also the 'southern div' rides which are posted on the forum. Training rides are something else and although they will be made up of (mainly) club members they can be a bit more loosely organised, particularly nowadays with all the social media. If 1 or 2 members choose to hook up for a ride together that would not, imo, constitute a club ride.
As an aside to your question Mary and I have asked on this forum whether other members, in particular those new to cycling, would be interested in a Saturday morning social ride from SSC, circa 09.30 or 10.00am. The format I envisage would be similar to those that Andy and Julie Overton ran from Droitwich last year; a very steady ride of an hour or so with a cafe stop either mid way or back at SSC afterwards. To date we have had no one post a reply, although I've not checked today yet. I know that we use the circuit on Sat mornings but maybe every other week we could also do an easyriders run into the surrounding countryside. I understand that Paul Darby will duplicate this idea on Facebook and Twitter to reach those members who don't normally access the forum.
