We are pleased to announce that Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club are significantly increasing their road race team for the 2017 season with over 40 male and female riders representing the club in road and circuit races. The team will include riders from a wide range of age groups including senior 2nd, 3rd, 4th Category and LVRC, through to junior and youth riders.
It also supports our plans for an academy type structure for our youth riders to begin racing and progress through the junior ranks with an aim of moving into the senior racing team. It has a great foundation with our existing strong coaching structure, the riders entering the British Cycling Regional Schools of Racing and the facilities available at the University of Worcester, Institute of Sport and Exercise Science. For club members this is the type of progress that is made possible by being an established British Cycling Go-Ride registered club with Clubmark status.
This increase in road racing activity had been planned for some time, and has been established thanks to the close links with GBC Racing who are not re-registering their team for next year, allowing many of their existing riders to move to Wyre Forest CRC.
The increased road racing presence is great step forwards for the club and builds on our existing strong time-trial competition element. All Wyre Forest CRC first-claim members who hold a British Cycling Race Licence will be included in the new team line up, with the aim being to ensure as many members as possible compete in club colours for 2017. Our target is to finish in the Top-10 British Cycling ranked clubs in the West Midlands Region next year.
Our road racing structure also has new input onto the club committee with a new Road Racing Representative, Steve Lewis and new events secretary, Mike Haddon. Both of whom have road racing experience from within the peloton and in organising road race events. We are also currently exploring organising an open road race during 2017 which will show the clubs commitment to both participate and provide events for us all to enjoy riding in.
We will keep you informed of the road racing plans and activity through the main club website, club discussion forum, Facebook and Twitter.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Regards
Paul
