Can someone explain the meaning of the four classes- scratch, handicap, vets on standard, road bike, and also how points are awarded, thanks, Craig Hopkins Scratch: Actual time a rider achieves in an event. Handicap: This is the allowance a rider is given to balance out their time compared with that of the fastest rider. Vet on Standard: A rider becomes a veteran on reaching the age of 40 and from that age on he is given a 'Standard' for each distance by the the Veteran Time Trial Association. This Standard increases on a rider's birthday each year. A rider's actual time in an event is compared with his Standard and produces either a 'Plus' time or a 'Minus' time. The rider with the biggest Plus is the winner. Road Bike: A standard bike with no time-trialling aero attachments, tri-bars, disc wheels etc. Points: These are awarded First 50, Second 45, Third 42, Fourth 40 and then decreasing one point at a time.
