Well, thats the way to start the club TT season. The first 5 miles into a 23 mph block headwind, gusting to 43 mph! Just remind me what we do this for?!
Good turn out from the club considering the fairly unpleasant conditions.

I thought it was a lovely evening for a ride, not I was happy enough with the time on Wednesday night considering that is the first cycling event I have ever had a go at. But got up Thursday morning mad as hell I had not gone faster. But I will on the next visit out there. I was telling Paul D today it was all a little strange with the start and all of that, never experienced anything like it really as always done team events in sport. Very different from riding with a bunch, I will to do some adjustment for that. And maybe a TT bike in due course???

There is a good reason that TT's are known as 'the race of truth'
There is no hiding.

Justin - I was mad on the night and the next morning and still today . Rode the course tonight and went 80 seconds faster with av HR 6 bpm lower. I was sure id gone off too hard and died on Wednesday, so went quite conservative to the turn tonight. Scraping a very slow 26 is a bit more like what I was expecting given fitness level and road bike without TT bars. I'm sure I'll go off too fast next time too when the adrenalin kicks in. It is going to take quite a while to get the hang of TTing and even longer to get fit. Still, at least I'm less mad now.

Yep a good description if ever I heard one. But will do better next visit, it is strange to try to set yourself up for these things when you can't really take it all in if you know my drift. And Andy it's good to be mad, made you go out again tonight and bash it up. That corner into Ryelane lane got me, cut it far too fine and lost time with the speed drop and the wind howling. The flats are fine but got to keep the tempo going up those inclines, that's we're I need to work but it will come my friend. See how our times go through the season. Not sure how I'm going to keep up with the track on Tuesdays and TT on a Wednesday, something might have to give there I think?

Sometime over the next few weeks I will be riding that course myself to set myself a personal goal. I know I have a long way to go so I am aiming to beat 45mins for a personal goal. I intend on riding 10 laps of the track tomorrow at 15mph average if I get the chance without being in everyone elses way . Then into the cafe for some serious coffee.

Justin, Andy.... trust me on this.... the more you ride the TT's you will get much quicker, just by knowing each course.... and if it makes you feel better, my first 10 TT i went round in 29.41 !!! 3 weeks later I was down to 26 ish..... then a little quicker.... Then you get to the point of "what equipment can I get to go faster !!" You both did good rides on Wednesday... But I bet by the end of the season...... you will be much quicker !!

Look on the bright side... At least you didn't get an 11min penalty for missing your start time!!

What happened Jack, a bit of mechanical or just happy plodding down Ryeland lane into that howler?

I wish I could say it was a mechanical... Nope just missed the start. I won't be doing that again anytime soon!! Don't beat yourself up over your time. My first 10mile TT was loads slower than that!! Racing is so very different to training and only practice/experience will change that... All part of the fun!

My what fun you all had. I rode my first TT, a 10 in 1966, age 17! and recorded a 28.30. I've never really got on with TT's and when I came back to riding in 2004 after an 18 year break my first 10 took a whopping 31.52 Last year I did a 24.57 which is I suppose ok at 63; each season I want to improve on the times but each year the body is trying to get worse because of this age thing (I've never been a fan of ageing, it's bad for your health imo). Enjoy the buzz everyone and newcomers, keep a record of your time and the winners, plus date and couse key, as you will need them if you enter any open events.
