I won't make a ride this weekend. Looks like a great weekend for riding - with uncanny timing, I'm working long days all weekend. I'm thrilled about this.

As long as it's not to icy on Sunday morning there will a ride to the Spiders web café in Cosford for some thick toast, taking a similar route to the one we took last time we went there. The ride will leave SSC at 09:00.

Sorry lads, won't be able to make tomorrow. I'm under instructions to do a shorter ride as it is Amelie's 3rd birthday party. Have a good one. See you next week.

Down to SSC for 09.30, 2 others from the SVV club there so I took them out on a steady ride south. Saw some black weather in the south of Worcester direction so we turned east and missed it, then took the lanes for another half hour or so to the café for a short break. Brought them home in good time to miss the hail and snow at lunch time, a nice 42 mls for me, glad the weather is still not too wintry. Hoping for a dry Sunday next week, 09.30 as usual at Stourport, steady pace, café stop somewhere, good banter.

DNS on this mornings club run. Left home to ride down to SSC and found the main road untreated and looking frosty, this became icy on Long Bank, and really bad down the Bewdley by pass. I stopped, very gingerly, just under the bridge and surveyed the remaining descent down to the river - it was looking very nasty and there seemed to be a small heap of cars at the bottom plus a flashy blue light. So I turned round and came home, it was just too risky to ride. If anyone did go out I hope they stayed upright; next time I suggest you give it a miss, broken bones are just not worth getting in a few icy miles for. Back to the turbo and Gym!

A good try Mr P, a excellent effort in crazy conditions. We delayed our ride until 1045 away from the Carpet place, headed off to Tewkesbury, Longdon, Upton, Pershore and back. It was ok once on the main roads and just the '2 of us' Mr Darby put the gas down. Upton to Pershore was rapid, average speed was 23.2mph, Torvil and Dean. We have both put in some good TT efforts over the weekend, it's all looking very good Well let's try and keep this slower ride from SSC going, if you are not able to make a ride on the Sunday morning Dave let us all know and I'm sure one of us will fill in to keep it going

Keep off the Bewdley bypass at all costs, in fact any road that is single carriageway but 3 lanes. Drivers treat it as a dual carriageway but when it all goes wrong there is no central reservation to keep things going in the right direction, so they collect on-coming traffic, or have nowhere to manoeuvre during a 3 abreast overtake and hit a cyclist.
I have already had one friend killed while cycling on the Bewdley bypass (Tim Kane, 18th April 2007), we don't need any more, it's a much more pleasant route through the centre of Bewdley anyway.

Seem's that your actions were justified David, VCSevale had 2 riders off after stumbling across a car spinning in front of them, at least 1 rider off on the Worcester St.Johns ride, also a guy I follow on Strava got struck by a car travelling in the opposite direction, the car hitting his arm. The driver did not even stop, disgraceful. I stumbled across the north advice lads on my way home at Drakes Broughton, Richard riding with them had a off as well. You did look cold but well wrapped up lads, hardcore stuff Sometimes the turbo is a far more sensible option, better not to take the risk and ride another day. Even BullyBull did not get out of bed this morning and he is hard as nails.

Nearly always avoid the bypass Paul but at the top it looked better than the old road down into Bewdley. Often go out from home through Heightington and down Hurtle Hill and Dunley for Stourport but that was def a no no this morning. Coming home I am spoilt for climbs from all directions to get back up to my place but my favourite is from Bewdley, v. good since it was properly resurfaced a year or so back.

Great ride this morning organised by Dave Prior. Chance for a good catch up. It makes forthcoming winter training more bearable -good tea, good cake, good banter! Looking forward to next week.
