So who from the club is riding which reliability trials? I know a few of us are at the VC Sevale in Malvern this Sunday (13th Jan). I am going to try to make it but I have a family commitment I may need to work on! I will be doing Malvern Cycle Sport on the 3rd Feb, and ours on the 10th Feb. I may do Redditch on the 24th Feb.

I should be doing most, if not all of these where possible.

I'll be (hopefully) doing ours on 10th. Can't do the Redditch one as I'll be in Tenerife then. Taking my bike and hoping to meet Wiggo on the road and race him to the top of Teide! Seem to remember reading somewhere that B'Grove Oly have their Reliability on 17th Feb. If so I plan to do that one too.

Aiming to do as many as possible - they're always a good excuse for a burn up!

If you're off to Tenerife Ian you can meet a group, mostly Flandrians!, who ride most days from Las Galletas. This is on the coast about 30mins ride from Los Christianos. To get details of those and other group rides try thye bike shop in Los Christianos, the guys there speak good English.
If you do Teide the nicest way up from the southern coast is taking the main road past Chayofa, Calo Blanco and on to Granadilla, all on the C-822. Then take the Teide road, C-821 up to Vilaflor where you can stop for a coffee at the junction. That is the highest town in Spain and it's a hard climb pretty well all the way to the National Park, but there is a good, but tad expensive, Parador just below the Volcano where you can get a meal and another drink.
Any more info just send me an email.
Don't forget to go to the islands top restaurant in Chayofa, La Estancia. Details go to Regency Country Club web site which is where we have our place. Enjoy the holiday.

Thanks for the info Dave. We're actually staying in Chayofa this year. I've taken the bike to Tenerife a few times before but have stayed either in Los Gigantes or the Playa/Los Christianos area.
I tend to avoid rding with Flandriens. Hard as nails, faster than me (but most people are) and NUTS going down hill. I was out a couple of years ago and got caught on a climb by a Flandrien chap in his 60's. I was close to puking while he was happily chatting away. We got to the top of the climb and he put on a gillet at about 30mph and descended like Paulo Savoldelli while I was on the brakes all the way down! I lost him after the first bend and didn't see him again!
Is the run up to Teide from Vilaflor as hard as Masca? I've not done Masca on the bike, but did it in a hire car and was in 1st gear for stretches of it!

If you're staying in Chayofa pop into reception at the Country Club and say Hi to Gabby and Christina from Mary & me.
The climb from Vilaflor up to Teide is much longer than Masca but nothing like as brutally steep. You actually descend a bit into the National Park after crossing the old rim of the caldera but then it's a flattish section before the last haul up through the coloured rocks before you reach the Parador. It's nearly 8,000ft up by then so be prepared to get a bit breathless!
The Flandrian you came across sounds like the one who kept sticking the wheel on me a couple of years back. If so he is an ex pro who was 4th to Eric De Vlaemick in the world cross champs; he used to train with Eric and Roger (Mr Paris-Roubaix) and many of the other flemish stars of that time. The others in the group in Tenerife told me he always liked to 'test' any newcomers and they had a good laugh when I followed him up the road not knowing who he was - it was hard but he didn't drop me, I think because I had an age advantage of 4 or 5 years.

Haha thanks for showing so much confidence in me Darbs, but I think i'll need a little more than a few reliability rides for 1st cat license!! Also: very impressive memory you have there Dave! I struggle with left or right let alone road numbers! ;D

I am on for Sunday, family commitment re-arranged. The long range weather forecast looks OK, cold but dry at the moment, same as last year.
At the moment there is Jack, Jason, Jamie Jenks, me, Andy O, Dave B... any other takers?

Gary Jones and possibly my bro Paul if he's not working too. Forecast dodgy though - looks like a dead ringer for black ice

If its icy then I won't be there... not worth the risk... I will assess in the morning, maybe go out a little later in the day if it thaws out a bit... we'll see.
