Very disappointed by the lack of banter from Wednesday.

Yes, I thought there may be a little more!
I had a very poor ride, and I'm not sure why. I looked at some comparible times from last year and I was 16 seconds slower from the start to the first turn, thats a lot to loose in that first section. 39 seconds slower overall.
I just didn't push hard enough from the word go. The 2 middle sectors were very similar times to my fastest, then I lost a few seconds on the return to the finish.
No excuses, I think I know what went wrong, we'll see what happens next week.
Andy O had a good ride, as did Dave Meacham. Justin pushed hard, and is realising the TT-ing is a tough game!
Worryingly I was actualy feeling OK, so I can't even blame it on not feeling great!

Good ride last night glad to get first one in. Can't believe Andy missed win by 1 second. You'll get him next time mate.
I've checked my times from last year Paul and I reckon I was 16 seconds quicker on the first section!!!!!
I'm sure you'll get me next week.

Sorry about the lack of Banter chaps, flat out yesterday to see what has been happening on the forum. Yes the Yeti legs, got to go I think as seconds counts. But you do know Paul that will help me out a little more still when we are training on the weekends Helmet was great Andy, thanks for that. Might Marshall at the next one as its is 14miles, legs just are not really for that. But I throw the kitchen sink at it on Wednesday, totally ran out of gears on some of the hills so thinking about that to get a little more. On my bike i just could not push any harder, 170HR Av and checked it for the duration and was a flatline throughout. It is purely for me not listening to the legs, the HR not really a problem. I have been using the commute rides on the MTB to push harder and it's working, I did work in 22mins this week on the shed. It is allowing me to push harder for longer and this will be added to the training on the weekends now as it was when me and Dave did a few little turns on the way home last Sunday!!! But enjoying the experience of the TT's, the start was cool and because I took a bit more notice this time I could feel the adrenalin kicking in with the countdown to start. Very new for me this and if my road riding is anything to go by I will make sure I push harder and go faster!!!! So Ryeland Lane in 2 weeks. New Tubs No yeti legs you were right Paul (Please Andy) Borrow Andy's Helmet at Ryeland lane for a PB No TT bike, need to find and ride a bargain. Just more fun that way and it is the wrong time most likely to buy this kind of bike. Bet the Autumn it's fill your boots as people are selling up? Just out of interest, how would your times be if you road on your non TT bikes?

Its very difficult to say what the difference is, there are so many variables. Its fair to say that the TT bike will be faster, but the biggest difference is tri-bars and aero wheels, everything else is seconds here and there to make it cumulatively faster. You are running out of gears because you are on a compact chainset. For TT-ing you need at least a standard, some guys even routinely ride 54 or 55 tooth chainrings. You could really push the boat out and go for one of these: Attachments:

As a reference, road bike v tt bike - I used my new Planet X stealth for the first time on Wed and was 3 secs slower than my PB. To put that in context however the PB was set in June last year when I was much fitter and half a stone lighter. On Wednesday I was also finishing a course of antibiotics for a urinary infection! My gut feeling is the tt bike gave me about a minute but its impossible to quantify.

An, if I am going to do it then it will have to be a TT bike I think Paul but may change my rear cassette to experiment. Thanks for the info Dave, just trying to get my head around where I am and what is required here. But the ignoring the legs will improve as time goes on, I'm not one to sit back and take it easy so it will come Be better prepared for Ryeland Lane next time around!!!

I think its easy to blind yourself with science sometimes - at the end of the day just remember to ' PLF' and you won't go far wrong! ;D

Top tip: If you can still breath/speak/walk at the finish you're not doing it properly!!!

Justin..... I think your over analyzing it..... keep riding the courses and your time will come down, you seem to be beating yourself up about your time on Wednesday, and it was the first time you rode that course! Trust me you are much faster on your first time out than most of us! I think you should ride Pearl Lane, yes it is longer, but you have a good engine.... and you get to know the course like the others then. Once you have done each course a few times, then is the time to start questioning what you can improve.

Yes, but don't under estimate that shaving those legs will shed over 6 kgs of fur and reduce drag by about as much as TT-ing in a duffle coat while wearing a pirates hat and carrying a rucksack with a parachute in it, towing a kite... or thereabouts!!
Just going silky will reduce your time by about 8 minutes!!
